Learn how debt review works, what an exit assessment involves and which records help us understand your case.
Debt review, also called debt counselling, is a process under the National Credit Act for people struggling to meet their debt repayments. An NCR-registered debt counsellor assesses income, living costs and debts and proposes a repayment arrangement where appropriate.
It is not a new loan and does not cancel the money you owe. You must keep paying under the applicable arrangement. Further credit is restricted while you are under debt review.
Debt review helps manage repayment. Removal support starts by checking whether a lawful exit or correction is available. A better salary or a wish to borrow again does not automatically end debt review.
We check the application, assessment, court position and settlement evidence before explaining your next step. La’eeqah handles the regulated debt-counselling decisions; legal questions are referred to an attorney where needed.
A status code alone is not enough to confirm eligibility. We need the underlying records.
A Form 19 clearance certificate is issued by a registered debt counsellor when the section 71 requirements are satisfied. Settlement must be supported by creditor records.
An outstanding home loan may not prevent clearance if the other relevant debts are settled, the rearranged mortgage has no arrears and you can meet its future payments. Your debt counsellor must assess the full requirements.
After we explain the purpose and obtain the necessary consent, we may request:
Send complete, readable pages. If something is missing, tell us so we can identify what is needed next. Never send a banking PIN, password or one-time password.
Keep copies of the formal outcome and follow up on your credit reports. A status correction and a new credit application are separate steps. A lender still assesses affordability and its lending criteria; approval is not guaranteed.
Continue tracking your budget and repayments. Ask for an explanation if a credit report still shows information you believe is incorrect, and retain the dispute reference and supporting documents.
Stopping a debit order, paying creditors directly or changing debt counsellors does not itself remove debt review. If you cannot afford your payments, speak to your registered debt counsellor promptly before changing the arrangement.

Third-party, legal, court or statutory charges—if applicable—are not included unless expressly stated in writing. Court work is only available where the facts and legal stage support it; it is not a way to cancel an existing rearrangement order simply because your finances improve.
You must receive a written explanation of the service, fees and payment terms. For credit-record improvement or information-removal services covered by section 126A(3), payment may only be received after the services have been fully performed. The payment options above do not require an upfront payment for those services.

Frequently asked questions
No. The available route depends on the legal stage of your case. Where a debt-rearrangement order exists, exit generally requires compliance with section 71 of the National Credit Act and a clearance certificate issued by a debt counsellor after the statutory requirements are met.
A voluntary withdrawal is not available after a debt-rearrangement order. Your status and settlement position must be assessed to determine whether the clearance requirements have been met.
No reputable provider can guarantee an outcome before reviewing the facts. We provide assessment, administrative support and process coordination, subject to the applicable legal requirements.
Ask for the application and consent records, keep copies of messages and correspondence, and raise the matter with the NCR for investigation. An incorrect or unauthorised application requires an evidence-based complaint; a removal promise is not a substitute for that investigation.
Your documents help establish what you applied for, whether an order exists and which debts are settled. Complete records help avoid recommending the wrong service. We explain what is needed and why before requesting it.
No. A transfer changes the debt counsellor handling your matter. It does not automatically end debt review or restart the process.
You can contact us and supply the requested records through our agreed communication process. Any required formal signatures, court steps and creditor confirmations must still be completed.
Timing varies according to your status, document availability, creditor responses, the registered debt counsellor, any required legal process and credit bureau updates.
